Hope you all had a good Christmas & enjoyed spending time with family & friends whilst not forgetting those who may have found this time of year more difficult due to illness or being without a loved one for the first time.
The Christmas lunch was a great success by all accounts. Our thanks to all the staff for looking after us so well. The food was excellent, if only we did not have to leave some of those lovely fresh vegetables due to our plates being so full!! 31 people attended which was great to see & that is without some of our regular attendees who were missed. Mike is in Australia & will not be back 'till March, we wish Mike & Anne a happy new year. We look forward to seeing Audrey & Dusty, Ken & Joyce, Joyce Gray, George & Leila, Glenn & Elena, Jackie & Mal as soon as they can make it. (apologies if I've missed anyone!).
Just a reminder about the Website John Brett has set up for us.
https//:www.bsafc.co.uk & John's email is firstname.lastname@example.org
John has asked me to send him the newsletters for 1 year which he will publish. I've also got some old photos of the group & Rodney is able to tell us where they have been taken as I understand the group used to go for walks in those days. Dusty handed over to me some of the lunch menus from the early days which John may choose to publish as part of our history, we are certainly spoilt for choice now compared with by gone days!
On he 21st December, Stephen & I attended a Christmas lunch organised by Peter on behalf of the new & first Cornwall Ex Mets get-together. We had a lovely time & it was great to meet a new group who were getting together for the fist time. The venue was near Truro & further details can be provided by Peter for anyone interested in attending. Fortunately it will not be on the same date as our lunch! Peter said it was likely to be on a Thursday.
Stephen found the attached news article on a murdered Police Officer in 1973 quite moving (also 3 Casino workers).
Does anyone remember the shocking incident at the time? You will see from the article that the murdered officer should & will be remembered. (photo also attached).
The next edition of NARPO & LPP should have our new advert with our new name 'DevonMets'. As agreed & approved, we may be able to attract new members as the location will be more specific.
The Taunton ExMets are meeting on 10th January in Trull & on the 14th February at Taunton.
Thought for today:
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, that is why it is called the present!
